Pennsylvania PBS stations receive regional and national recognition from a variety of associations and organizations. Congratulations to everyone involved in upholding a tradition of excellence in public media.
2022 Bobbi English Champion for Children Award given to WQED Educators
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced WQED’s Gina Masciola and Cathy Cook as joint recipients of the 2022 Bobbi English Champion for Children Award. According to the press release from CPB, this award “recognizes Cook and Masciola for their dedication to the enrichment and engagement of children in their local community.” The Pennsylvania PBS stations are proud to have Cathy and Gina as colleagues!
2022 Public Media Awards presented by the National Educational Television Association
Congratulations to PBS39 for winning four Public Media Awards, presented at the January National Educational Television Association (NETA) conference.
Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters recipients
The Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters recognized excellence in broadcasting for both TV and radio features and programs. WQED, WVIA and Pennsylvania PBS were recognized for TV programs and announcements. WVIA and WLVR (part of Lehigh Valley Public Media/PBS39) received awards for radio programs and features.
Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Award recipients
Collectively, the Pennsylvania PBS stations received 10 awards from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Television Academy during the virtual ceremony on September 25.
WQED received six awards including the award for Overall Excellence – their 6th year of being honored with this prestigious award.
WHYY and WLVT programs and staff also received multiple awards.
As part of the September 25 program, these television professionals were inducted into the Silver Circle and Gold Circle Societies, recognizing their contributions to the television industry:
- Jessica Lee, Director of Multimedia Design at WLVT- inducted into the Silver Circle Society for 25 years
- Paul Byers, Engineer for WQED – inducted into the Gold Circle Society for 50 years
